Cribb, Dempsey Return to INDEX

Born:

Died:   bf 1880
Father
Mother

Biographical Sketch:

Speculations based on census data: Dempsey had established his own household after 1820, probably marrying and having a first child by 1822 if that child was indeed the Elizabeth Cribb who later married Archibald Cox, Jr.  His first wife, possibly also named Elizabeth, died after 1830, and Dempsey had apparently re-married after 1840 and before 1869.

On the other hand, the census data
1830a1830b shows an age 40-50 Elizabeth Cribb, possibly a grandmother or widowed mother, heading a household with a girl and a boy ages 5-10.  This same woman appears as head of household in the 1820 and 1810 censuses, and not in 1800.  The girl noted in 1830 also could be the Elizabeth Cribb who later married Archibald Cox, Jr.   However, no Elizabeth Cribb is found in 1840, having presumably died or re-married, and no suitably aged Elizabeth Cribb is found in 1850.

Other children:

none
