Williams, Mary Jane Return to INDEX

Born:
September 18, 1840 (SC)
Died: May 10, 1887 (SC)
Father
Mother

Biographical Sketch:

She lived with and married George M. Harter; they had 2 (or possibly 3) children.  One daughter was Sarah Elizabeth Harter (as indicated on Sarah's death certificate). However, George apparently had started his first family with Mary's older sister, Teresa Elizabeth Williams.  He seems to have had a child with Mary (see 1860 census), married or lived with Teresa and, after Teresa's death, had two or more children with Mary.

Children:

George M. (1859 - >1900) -- probably same as age 10 "Luther" in 1870. See 1900 1910  See Teresa Williams.
Wymond
(1872 - >1910) + Annie R. (1878 - > 1910)  See 1910
John J.
(Aug 6 1873 – Oct 6 1899)   However, see 1900
Jasper
(1876 - >1880)
Eddie Frampton
(Sep 13 1878 – Nov 16 1960)    See 1910   See World War I registration card.

Notes:

In the 1860 census, she is listed in the same household as George M . Harter and 1 year old boy (George M. Williams) who appears to be her son.  Given the name of the son, the father might have been George Harter.  See notes on George M. Harter.

Mary J. Williams, her 11 year old boy and George M. Harter aren't found in the 1870 census.  However, all three re-appear in the 1880 census, 8 years after Teresa's death.

The 1880 census shows 11 children; 8 of these appear to have been children of Teresa Elizabeth Williams.  The other 3 children may be those of Mary.  The 21 male named W.A. Harter in the 1880 census may be the 1 year old boy George M. Williams noted in the 1860 census.
