Biographical Sketch:


Married in 1859 to Arthur Burgess Kennedy; they had 10 children.  Emma Burgess Kennedy was one daughter (Caroline was her twin).  Anna H. and James Edward also were twins.

Her birthplace, birthdate, parents and date of death are proved by her death certificate.

In 1905-06 she was widowed and living at 111 Kendrick Street.

Her obituary was published in The Watchman and Southron (October 6, 1915 issue).



Her obituary also was published in The State newspaper (October 7, 1915).



The census of 1850 (5 Oct 1850) shows her as Emeline Watts.
The census of 1900 indicates that she was the mother of 10 children, 8 of whom were living.  In 1900 she is listed as head of a household consisting of herself, her daughter Anna H. Kennedy, her grandchildren John William Cox and Alma Irene Cox.
Walsh's directory for Sumter, SC (1905-06) shows her living at 111 Kendrick with her grandchildren John William Cox, Sr. and Alma Irene Cox.
The 1907-08 directory shows her living at 101 S. Magnolia.
In the 1910 census she is shown living with her daughter Mary Lucretia Kennedy and son-in-law Thomas N. Smith.
