Census Data:
Her husband Thoroughgood is found in the NC 1784-87 State Census.
His Richmond County household has 1 white male (age 21 to 60), 2 white
males (age <21 or >60) and 4 females (all ages). There are no
slaves. His son Samuel is listed on the same census page.
- 1 of the 2
white
males (age <21 or >60) is probably Thoroughgood, as he would have
been older than age 60. The other might have been Stephen (age 16-19)
or William (born 1768, but possibly had died before the census).
Charles Patee is shown as a Head of Household of a large family in
Granville County.
- The 1 white male (age 21 to 60) is probably Thoroughgood Jr., who would have been age 4-7.
- The
4 females of all ages may have been Winifred, Mary, Elizabeth and
Sabra. Note that a Mary Pate is listed as a Head of Household in
Wilkes County.
According to Janice Case (see email in Thoroughgood
Pate ): "The
1790 Census lists Samuel, Stephen and Thor. The son Thor. appears to be in
the household of his father. The deed of 1802 states he was the youngest
son. The 1800 Census lists the same names, the younger Thor. continuing to
be with his parents. In 1810, the three brothers are listed, as well as
Samuel's son, Elias. Winefred appears to be in the household of her son. Thor."
