Note: During the American Revolution Alexander Kennedy was 38; he served for 86 days in the South Carolina Militia between 1781 and 1782.  He was a Private stationed at the Congarees.  He also made saddles for the horseman in the S.C. Militia, "serving as a saddler in the light dragoons under Capt. William Alexander, Lt. Col. Wade Hampton and General Sumter."  See: "Roster of South Carolina Patriots in the American Revolution".   As a private he served under Col. Thomas Taylor, Capt. James Craig, Capt. John Miles, and Capt. William Robertson; these men certified his services.  Alexander received payment for his militia service on January 21, 1790 totaling 1200 pounds, 15 shillings and 5 pence.  Apparently Alexander was not wounded in the war because he did not apply for a pension.
