Biographical Sketch:


Katherine attended Nysmith School for the Gifted (Herndon, VA) from 1st grade through 8th grade; she then attended Flint Hill School (Oakton, VA).  At an early age she qualified for the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY video) in both the verbal and mathematical areas.  Each summer she has attended 3 or 6 week CTY summer programs at Stanford University or Johns Hopkins University.  She also attends the professional preparatory Classical Ballet Academy (Reston, VA); here is Katherine's ballet page from late 2003.  Also see these (p1 p2 p3 p4) for the 2003 Cinderella performance.  Here is a picture of Katherine from the 2004 Nutcracker production.

She attended Nysmith School (grades 1-8) and Flint Hill School (grades 9-12).  In 2010 she graduated from James Madison University with a major in biology, then entered medical school that fall at George Washington University.  As determined on Match Day, she continued her post-MD training at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in NYC.  
She married Devon Flaherty on May 21st, 2016.  During 2017-18 she took a faculty teaching position at Columbia University Medical School.  In July 2018 she then entered a fellowship in pulmonary / critical critical care at Brown University in Providence, RI.  The family moved to Northern Virginia in September 2023.

Her first child, Gwendolyn Rose Flaherty, was born on March 19th, 2020 in Providence, RI.  Her second child, Logan William Flaherty, was born on December 3, 2022 in Providence, RI.
